Patrick Kasaija alias Pato, the key suspect in the kidnap and murder of Susan Magara has been extradited from South Africa where he has been hiding, according to police.

“It’s true Patrick Kasaija alias Pato, arrived this afternoon (Wednesday) upon being extradited from South Africa,” police spokesman CP Fred Enanga confirmed.
Police said Pato is currently detained at SID Kireka and has been granted access to his lawyer.

“Arrangements to interview him and also investigate his defence in the alleged murder of Susan Magara are in place. Immediately after, the case file will be forwarded to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for perusal and probable sanctioning,” CP Enanga said on Wednesday evening.

Pato is a Ugandan Citizen commonly known for cruising around in posh motor vehicles with personalised number plates named ‘Pato’.

He is alleged to have left the country carrying the ransom money paid by the family of the late Susan Magara after her murder.

He is said to have travelled to South Africa on February 25, 2018, a day after the ransom worth Sh700 million was paid to the kidnapers under the names of Patrick Kasaija.

However, investigations are yet to produce any evidence linking Pato to the crime even though the Investigators and DPP have insisted on maintaining his name on the charge sheet.

Apart from video footage of Pato passing through the airport, he is implicated by phone call exchanges between two other suspects Bob Kibilango and Ronald Asiimwe also known as Kanyankole. Kibilango and Kanyankole were dropped from the list of suspects in April 2018 and as the investigating started pursuing a different line of investigations.
