Kampala — A criminal gang has abducted a 28-year old Ugandan in the UK.

The London Metropolitan police released images of Mr Aron Kato’s kidnap scene on Tuesday as he was being dragged into a dark BMW SUV on April 18.

Kato, a resident of Newham, East London, was seen being pushed into a BMW on Ley Street, Ilford in the wee hours (4.30am) .

His wife, Ms Chanel Naidoo, who has a three-month-old child with Kato, said: “Anyone that knows Aron knows that he is the most bubbly, happy, genuine family man who would do anything to help anyone and he would always go out of his way to make sure we were all looked after.”

She appealed to the kidnappers to release her husband safely.

Mr Kato’s twin sister Sharon Babirye was also quoted decrying the way kidnappers dragged her brother.

“We know where he was taken from, but we don’t know where he is. We don’t know what they’re doing to him, we don’t know if he’s eating, drinking,” she added.

Yesterday, the Ugandan community speaking to Daily Monitor said they were worried about the trend.

Mr Bosco Nyombi, a promoter of the Buganda cultural heritage association, said they were working with police to sensitise Ugandans on dangers of criminality.

Media quoted Scotland Yard officers saying they were concerned for Mr Kato’s welfare, with the search to find him being led by detectives from the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command.

Seven men, aged 25 to 39, who had been arrested on suspicion of kidnap have been released under investigation, police said.

Detective Chief Inspector Mick Norman said: “Aron had become a father and his disappearance is out of character. There has been no sight of Aron for a month and, as you can imagine, his family are increasingly concerned for his safety.”
