Following what has been happening at the Uganda- Rwanda border; Diplomats from the EAC and UN Security Council have flown to Katuna for the handover of the body of a Rwandan national killed by Rwandan soldiers in Uganda last Friday.
The cross section of accredited Diplomats from East African countries of Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi and their colleagues from China, United States, UK and Russia are also expected to arrive in Kabale today afternoon for the handover of Batista’s body, a Rwandese national who was shot and Killed on Ugandan soil by the Rwandan Soldiers.
Uganda subsequently accuses Rwanda of aggressive behavior, a claim Rwanda denies however the authorities in Uganda are determined to make their case against Rwanda before the international community.
Deputy of Chief of Protocol, Ministry of Foreign affairs, Dora Kuteesa said in A note “I have been requested to invite you together with all East African Heads of Missions and the 5 permanent members of the UN security council, to witness the handover of the remains of a Rwandese national who was shot and killed in Uganda by Rwandan Army”.
While Uganda’s decision to hold a hand over could be aimed at making its case clear before the International Community, Rwanda disputed this version of events saying the incident occurred inside her territory even when there was no explanation of how Batista’s body ended up in Uganda.
Despite Uganda protesting in the strongest terms what it described as “the Violation of its territorial integrity by Rwandan soldiers and the criminal, brutal and violent act by Rwandan soldiers on Uganda territory, against unarmed civilians”
Rwanda maintained her stand saying it would not take lectures on the conduct of its security forces.
