This afternoon, while speaking to the nation at the Media Centre, Mr. Ofwono Opondo has shocked journalists by claiming that the Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga erroneously issued a statement claiming that they were investigating a case involving the issue of undocumented cash into the economy amounting to 90 Billion shillings.`
This move is seen as an effort by government to clean up the mess that has risen with a public outcry on yet another BOU Scandal in which it appeared that officials from the Central Bank printed extra cash for themselves and smuggled it in via the official Bank consignment on a cargo plane from Paris.
We wonder why Mr. Ofwono would so blutantly come out to bring into disrepute the name of the Police Spokesperson by claiming that he fabricated the story. According to Ofwono Opondo, what is being investigated is a consignment of “extra luggage” and not cash. He says the Police should come out and make that clarity.
This is very surprising that the Police of the country, which in essence has the mandate to carry out such investigations is being double guessed and directed by Cabinet on what they should be investigating or how they should be telling the facts.
What is clear is that the Bou saga has unsettled government and Museveni and from the panic of his officials and institutions, it looks like the government is yet again engaged in cleaning up another scandal by distorting the facts and letting culprits go free.
