This evening, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has left for China on a 4 day working visit to China. Museveni will be attending the China-Africa economic and Trade Expo. He is also expected to hold a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing.
As Museveni visits China, Uganda is already tied down with a growing debt owed to China through its financing of various infrastructural projects under its imperialistic Belt and Road Initiative. Elsewhere, like in Zambia, China is confiscating important infrastructure due to failure by nations to honour their loan terms.
Yoweri Museveni is expected to ask China for more funding towards the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) project. However, the government of Uganda is yet to account for funds earlier received on the same project with nothing to show unlike Kenya that has already completed part of the ambitious railway project.
