Former chair of the COSASE committe of Parliament, Hon. Abdu Katuntu, has revealed the source of in-fighting within the Central Bank of Uganda.
The legislator who spent a lot of time leading the inquiry into BOU and particularly the sale of and closure of several Banks has revealed that there are two power camps in BOU. He says that one faction is aligned behind Governor Tumusiime Mutebile and the other behind Deputy Governor Louis Kasekende.
According to Katuntu, cause of the in-fighting is the talk of succession. There are several voices calling for the replacement of the now visibly aged governor Tumusiime Mutebile. His age and health is blamed for the reason why the Central Bank is in constant scandals. Kasekende is looked at as the logical replacement to Tumusiime by reason of his experience.
Other rumours suggest that the two camps could also be divided along tribal lines. Some elements believe that the Governorship should remain specially for a westerner and hence the fighting of a possible Muganda replacement.
