The speaker of parliament, Hon. Rebecca Kadaga has warned members of parliament against holding secret meetings with the president over parliamentary issues.
A rather irked Kadaga was addressing the house on pertinent issues and she sternly warned members against the growing practice. She said there are reports of members visiting statehouse or writing to the president to address concerns regarding issues in parliament. She said this practice is counterproductive and wrong since only the speaker is mandated to speak on behalf of parliament and to update the president on parliamentary matters.
She told them to stop this and promised that whoever continues to do so shall suffer full consequences of their actions.
The Speaker’s warning comes at a time when many mebers of parliament have been in the business of abusing parliamentary procedure and addressing the president directly and not through the Speaker.
