A senior police officer who was expected to be in Prison for stealing exhibits shocked Inspector General of Police, Okoth Martin Ochola by showing up at a retreat for criminal investigations Department detectives.
Ochola who was opening a retreat for CIDs narrated how the said officer was arrested and detained on allegations of selling cows that were at his station as exhibits and used the money for his personal needs.
To his astonishment, Ochola was told the same officer was in the room as they spoke yet he had been arrested sometime back.
“Who is the OC CID Kiruhura?” a startled Ochola called out.
“I don’t expect you here. Who released you from the cells? Were you released on police bond?” Ochola asked.
As the nervousness shot through the room, Ochola ordered the suspect to be given a microphone so he can answer for himself.
The officer is quoted by Daily Monitor telling Ochola that he had made errors during execution of his duty by not handing back to the suspect the items which were seized by police as exhibits. The case was later dismissed by court.
Ochola then questioned the officer’s supervisor who is also the Rwizi Police Region Criminal Investigations Commander.
“Afande, I don’t expect him here. I did not know who had invited him,” the Rwizi Regional CID officer said.
Ochola retorted: “You don’t expect him to be here, but he is here. Both of you have a case on your own.”
