Last week, we covered a story in which the UPDF sought to recruit and train more 13,000 LDU forces ahead of the 2021 elections.
This morning, the Uganda Police Force has also announced plans to recruit 5000 Qualified Ugandans who will serve specifically as Probational Police Constables (4500) and Learner Assistant Inspectors of Police (500)
The Police says that the new recruits will help it to address and fight the rising incidences of crime across the country, particularly Wakiso and Kampala. The recruits will also ensure that the 2021 general elections are smoothly conducted.
As we keep a focus and watch on the 2021 elections, we note the increased militarization of the state by the ruling NRM government. We also note that crime continues to rise despite the various measures taken by security agencies.
