Veteran journalist Andrew Mwenda has criticized the arrest the arrest of evangelist Joseph Kabuleta on charges of offensive communication against President Yoweri Museveni and his family.
On the other hand Police claims Kabuleta was arrested for referring to the President as a “gambler, thief and Liar” under the Kabuleta weekly rants terms they referred to as offensive.
Mr. Kabuleta was arrested by plain-cloth detectives from a restaurant at Forest Mall, Lugogo, and Kampala on Friday evening.
Mwenda took to the streets of Twitter saying that the arrest of Joseph Kabuleta for “offending the president” is archaic, intolerable and unacceptable! Ugandans have every right to offend the president. They hire him to serve them. They should be free to express their anger at how he is running the country justifiably or not!
He also noted that Uganda is a republic not a monarch where the President is elected by citizens, not anointed by birth; power belongs to the people not to the president who only exercises it on their behalf. So citizens have every right to make judgment of how they think/feel he is performing!
Joseph Kabuleta has recently authored critical dossiers against the regime and the First family over what he calls a plan by different people to have President Yoweri Museveni’s son Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba succeed him as President which has over the time gained him a mammoth following.
