The political elite class of the Andrew Mwendas and the likes who at first had thought the Kyadondo East legislator’s political platform would not elevate to the point of endearment to the Ugandan populace are now probably hiding in shame (and disbelief)

With just three years on the political arena, Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has changed the face of Uganda’s political struggle. Being a talented self made musician from the Kamwokya ghetto, Bobi Wine branded himself as an inspiration using music to preach the gospel of efficient leadership for the country. The wave favourably grew bigger than prophesied when it swept most of the parliamentary by-elections.

What turned out to be a turning point and spark for the wave was the moment Museveni’s henchmen pursued criminal activities in the Arua by-election of 2018 that left over 50 citizens tortured, several others beaten, journalists inclusive and also Yasin Kawuuma, the driver of Bobi Wine shot dead by the SFC while he was in Bobi Wine’s Toyota tundra.

What followed was a melodrama in which the state arrested Bobi Wine and several other colleagues on the night before the election and paraded an arsenal of weapons that they claimed belonged to Bobi Wine. They also accused the arrested of stoning the presidential motorcade. Bobi Wine and team were tortured and maimed at the hands of security agencies. And they lost that election!

Bobi Wine emerged having survived the wrath of Museveni’s men. He went ahead to brand his new wave as the long awaited rescuer of Uganda as a nation. The person who had began as a joke had indeed become a force to reckon with. Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi started giving Mr. Museveni sleepless nights, who began planting moles within the People Power. The state began suffocating the emerging wave, a media war was hatched to deny People Power and Bobi Wine coverage. In fact, the Uganda Communications Commission issued stringent terms restricting journalists from broadcasting or publishing anything about Bobi Wine.

The online Facebook fan base began Facebook and social media usage to maintain Bobi Wine who had been denied media attention. Museveni still used his parliamentary numeric advantage to pass the social media tax. This was to reduce Bobi Wine’s online fan base but still the people resorted to VPN and showered more love to their fresh leader. A scared Museveni resorted to buying bloggers and propagandists to preach against Bobi Wine and portray him as an icon of violence.

Today’s presser at Magere is a big score for Bobi Wine’s political future. Delegations of elites thronged his home to endorse and embrace his presidency aspiration announcement. The big announcement today was first seen on the official People Power page which wrote a statement reading, “Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi has officially declared to the people of Uganda that he will contest for presidency in the 2021 general elections”.

People Power spokesperson and retired senior NTV journalist, Joel Ssenyonyi clarified that their presser was not initially set to be held at Magere and the move has been a second plan following the denial of a venue at one of the top hotels in Kampala. Bobi Wine also confirmed the move to frustrate their event “All efforts to get a different venue have been frustrated by security agencies intimidating all the venue owners and ordering them not to host any of our functions,” Bobi Wine said.

The big announcement leaves Bobi Wine the victor. He has so far beaten Museveni’s propagandists that had cooked up lies that he wasn’t to bid in the 2021 polls.
