Lubaga South MP Kato Lubwama is today set to appear before the Court of Appeal in a pettition he filed against a High Court decision that allowed a one Habib Buwembo to file an electoral petition against him outside the stipulated time.
Habib Buwembo, a voter in Lubaga South, ran to the High Court to have Kato Lubwama’s election to Parliament cancelled over lack of requisite academic qualification. The only glitch in the petition was that it was filed after the stipulated time for filing electoral petitions had elapsed. However, the High Court allowed him to file the petition. This didn’t sit well with Kato Lubwama who ran to the Court of Appeal challenging the filing of the petition. The court is set to hear his petition and pronounce itself over the matter.
Kato Lubwama, then an opposition darling, has fallen out of favour with many of his supporters after publicly attacking Bobi Wine and People Power. He has also fallen out of favour within his own party, DP and many are keen on seeing him dumped out of Parliament.
