Buganda Road magistrate has today denied to grant bail to the detained FDC activists accused of assaulting the magistrate last Friday.
The six suspects had substantial sureties though court didn’t consider them. The sureties had come very ready to secure their comrades bail. Surprisingly, the state prosecutors amended the charge sheet and created four fresh charges on each of the suspects. This hardened the bail terms as it required each of them to have two different sureties in each of the cases. Among the detained is, Fatuma Abenabyo, a 34 year old mother to a six months old toddler with no mother to breast feed her at the moment. “That’s how sadist Museveni’s judicial system has become, starving a toddler breast milk as the mother is on remand till 16”, spoke one FDC woman councillor.
The accused were represented by the city Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago and counsel Isaac Ssemakadde. Erias Lukwago quetioned the nature of justice that will be delivered since the complainant is Buganda Road court itself trying the suspects from its very premises. “How can Buganda Road be the complainant and at the same time hosting the case”, wondered Erias.
Outside court, the deployment was immense and people with mineral water bottles were denied access to the courtroom. Police with aid of retrieved Friday footage was also singling out more people to include in the charge sheet. An FDC woman councillor was almost beaten up by a high ranking police officer only identifed as Liigo who is attached to CPS, Kampala.
