Ten days into her second nine-month jail term, Dr. Stella Nyanzi suffers double jeopardy in the hands of the Uganda Prison Service.

Our reporter was tipped off by a wardress of Luzira Women’s Prison who asked for anonymity for obvious reasons. In her revelation, the patriotic wardress confessed to the prevailing torture of the outspoken Museveni critic who is under incarceration for cyber crimes. She told us about the harassment that Dr. Stella Nyanzi is undergoing. This comes after the Uganda Prions Service spokesperson, Frank Baine openly vowed that Dr. Stella Nyanzi would be punished over her naked protest during the historic sentencing on August 2.

At the moment, all her visits are under prohibition. A few days back, the FDC party president Hon. Patrick O. Amuriat was blocked from seeing her and asked to vacate with immediate effect. The Opposition supremo cautioned the prison authorities that blocking Dr Stella Nyanzi’s visitors is likely to endanger the prisoner’s welfare as she is wholly taken care of by the visitors.

“I suspect that all this torture is a retaliation for Dr Stella Nyanzi’s bold act of exposing deficiencies in the prison system during the August 1 hearing when she asked Kamasanyu to tell prison services to renovate their toilets and restock the prison infirmary,” adds the whistleblower wardress.

We have learnt that Dr. Nyanzi started her hunger strike yesterday evening in protest of the solitary confinement where she’s been placed. All other inmates have been asked to disassociate from her or suffer a similar wrath. Her friend with whom they’ve been preparing meals together was already transferred to a different ward.

Dr. Stella Nyanzi was sent to solitary where she has been for the last six days. It is a highly guarded facility manned by male guntoting guards menacingly called SSU (Special Security Unit).

Our efforts to reach the OC of Luzira Women’s Prison, Doreen Asiimwe, were futile as she refused to respond to our calls.
