Angry residents of Bardege division in Gulu municipality forced the Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Betty Aol Ocan to walk for three kilometers in protest of bad roads. She had paid an impromptu visit to Gulu municipal council offices to meet people demanding for answers about bad roads in their area.
The residents led by Bardege Division LC III Chairperson, Patrick Oola Lumumba tasked Aol, who also doubles as Gulu woman MP to step out of the comfort of her vehicle and walk with them to taste the bad condition of the road, which has lasted for close to six years.
She, together with her four bodyguards and residents, walked the 3 kilometre distance from the Gulu Municipal Council office up to the residence of Yusuf Adek Okwonga, the Pageya clan chief, about three kilometers away. The journey lasted about 2 hours and by the time they completed it, they all had muddy feet and dirty clothes.
Residents say that the road has been impassable for over six years especially during the rainy seasons but their leaders are silent. Residents had earlier on used car tyres, stones and logs to block the road and also planted crops on the road in protest.
