On this day in 2011, Kampala city streets froze amid a huge wave of people following the then celebrated musical figure Bobi Wine.

The energetic crowd was charged with energy. The excitement bubbled beneath skins and vibration right down to the bones would be felt. The energy was contagious, one could literally feel and hear the high voltage zinging through all the people. Bobi Wine and Barbie Ithungo donned in their white wedding attire swept through the streets of Kampala on a chariot pulled by a couple of horses provided by the renowned city tycoon, Sudhir Ruparelia. The setting was natural, people cheered on with ululations. All television and radio broadcasters switched to streaming the wedding event live. The broadcast ignited right from Rubaga cathedral where the couple was happily wed.

Bobi and Barbie met a high school drama show in their youthful days of the 1990s. The duo’s fantasies turned a reality after their stage drama. Bobi and Barbie followed each other beyond the stage and their dating kicked off. It was a hard unpredictable decision for Barbie to leave off the wealth at home to fall for a ghetto dungeon lounging in the streets of Kamwokya. Their love was a reality. It transcended social class stratification, unlike most relationships.

Years later, the couple happily has four children as fruits of their love. In 2017, Bobi Wine whose music largely hit political trends made a choice of practically taking a chance in leadership. He massively grabbed the Kyadondo East seat in a largely thronged poll. His outspokenness and criticism for the Museveni regime turned him into a target. He was brutally manned in the age limit protest. The trend went on to the Arua saga which elevated him into a national figure.

Last year’s (7th anniversary) was lone for Barbie. She tearfully celebrated it while Bobi was forcefully in detention in Arua on treason charges. (Google for Barbie’s tear evoking letter for Bobi on 7th anniversary)

As Ekyooto media Uganda, we proudly extend our fruitful wishes for a happy anniversary to the presidential hopeful and we pray that the almighty place them in statehouse.
