The first son, Lt. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has irked the people of Northern Uganda by coming out to praise the Kony rebels who were under the Lord’s Resistance Army. The LRA spread terror, killed thousands, maimed hundreds and left destruction in their wake between 1986-2006, a period of 20 years when they fought in Northern Uganda.
Gen. Muhoozi angered the people when, in a tweet, he said that there was no denying that the Kony Soldiers were great soldiers. In the tweet, Muhoozi is trying to promote a recently released movie about the war. The movie, Kony: Order from above, will be screening between 20th and 26th September at Century Cinemax, Acacia Mall. The movie is gunning for a nomination at the Oscars.
In his heartless tweet, Gen. Muhoozi was trying to chest thump over his participation in the war that left a permanent scar on the lives of many people in Northern Uganda. His praise of the murderous LRA rebels, is one that has angered many, especially his followers who hail from Northern Uganda.
Are you suggesting that the LRA were ‘great soldiers’? If that is what you are implying, it is the most tone-deaf thing to say to the people who suffered under the UPDF and LRA in N.Uganda.

Renowned human rights lawyer and a son of Gulu, that was heavily ravaged by the war, couldn’t hide his displeasure at Muhoozi’s tweet. He called it “the most tone-deaf thing to say to the people who suffered under the UPDF and LRA in Northern Uganda.
Gen. Muhoozi’s LRA praise song is bound to rejuvenate the debate about the LRA war. Many in Northern Uganda believe that the UPDF, too, participated in causing havoc in their lands. Many have ever forgiven the army for failing to protect them and such anger is at the core of the Northern region’s calls to secede from the rest of Uganda.
