The commissioner of parliament, Peter Ogwang has today unveiled 150 brand new vehicles to be used on the 7 day parliamentary conference.
Whenever Uganda is to host a foreign event, it is perceived to be a quick money making venture for opportunists who take chance of that and bribe officis to win temporary tenders for themselves. At the unveiling, Ogwang says processing the entire procurement and purchase heavily cost approximately shs 15 billion. He furthermore adds that the amount covers maintenance, and the first servicing.
There might be a repetition of events similar to the 2007 post-CHOGM days when NRM government officials pocketed sums of billions for themselves after selling off the equipment used in that conference. Analysts have also quizzed and challenged Peter Ogwang to publicly unveil the transaction receipts of the costly venture.
The long anticipated Conference is scheduled to take place between September 22 and 29 September at the Commonwealth Resort Hotel in Munyonyo, Kampala. It is expected to attract over 1000 delegates comprising of speakers and parliamentarians across the Commonwealth nations.
