Police in the Kampala suburb of Najjera has rescued a child that was being tortured by one of his relatives. Police reacted after a tip-off by the residents.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police, police officers got information at around yesterday that there was a woman who was torturing a young boy of 6 years. The neighbours got concerned and tried to approach her but she locked herself in her room.

When Police reached the scene the neighbours had become violent, Police Officers had to carry out community policing to cool down the tempers of the residents. The suspect was talked to and she willingly accepted to open the door and she was arrested. The boy had scars and fresh wounds all over his body as a result of heavy beatings.

She was identified as Kukunda Penina, 29 years and a resident of Buwate. She is currently being detained at Najjera Police Station. Police is set to prefer charges of torture against her. It is currently not clear what her relationship with the tortured child is.
