Kyadondo East Legislator and People Power movement leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine has said that he is ready to comply with any guidelines issued to him by the Uganda Police in order to hold a concert at his One love beach in Busabala, Wakiso District scheduled for 9th October.
In Letter written to the IGP dated 30th September, Bobi wine expressed intentions to hold a concert dubbed “Osobola Ku Independence” at One Love Beach Busabala.
“Osobola Ku Independence” is expected to attract approximately ten thousand people for the said concert.
Bobi wine noted that He and Team are willing to work with Police to secure the venue as well as the revelers adding that they will comply with all the guidelines that may be issued to them for a successful concert.
“I also request for security for the said concert. On our part, we are ready and willing to work with the police to secure the venue as well as the revelers. We shall accordingly comply with any lawful guidelines that may be issued in this regard.”
While answering members of parliament over Bobi Wine’s banned concerts in December last year, Internal Affairs Minister Jeje Odongo said that police continually bans the singer’s concerts because he uses them for political capital instead of making money.
Jeje Odongo argues that Bobi wine holding concerts; it is against the Public Order Management Act by mixing politics with music.
Police accuse Bobi Wine of hijacking a concert in Jinja on December 15 to hold a political procession despite clearly understanding well-set guidelines and routes to use and in the same month, Bobi Wine dragged the government to court for banning his concerts and causing him Shs300m loss. However, the case was dismissed as the musician turned politician failed to prove how the banned music shows violated his rights to work, freedom of assembly, association and speech among other freedoms.
Bobi wine last had a concert in December last year, and ever since then-Police has over time banned him from performing at any concert, however, it is also not yet clear on whether Police will allow him to hold the Independence Day Concert.
