Police has officially blocked Bobi wine’s Osobola Concert that was scheduled to take place on Independence Day at One Love beach Busabaala.
In a letter signed by AIGP Asuman Mugyenyi on behalf of the Inspector General of Police referenced as ‘notification of a music concert and request for security’, Police says they have “regrettably” canceled the concert for failure to heed to the minimum security standards asked of the organizers.
“This serves to inform you that the notice to the Inspector General of Police has remarkable efficiencies that do not guarantee lawfulness, safety and security for the public and the organizers. Regretfully, therefore, the staging of the said concert cannot be allowed to proceed until the concerns raised are satisfactorily addressed,” the letter reads in part.
According to the same letter, the Inspector General of Police added that Bobi wine’s application to Police did not include plans for medical care, traffic control, crowd control, and security as per the earlier guidelines given by the concert organizers and therefore police cannot risk allowing the event to happen when there is foreseen danger.
Police also added that they do not have enough man power because most of its efforts will be focused on securing the Independence day celebrations in Sironko where various delegates are expected to be.
Reports coming in indicate that the Kampala Metropolitan Police commander and the Kampala South Regional Police Commander have been exclusively ordered to make sure the concert does not happen on grounds that it has not met the required security measures put in place as Per Police standards.
Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, confirmed the development and warned revelers against attending the blocked concert.
On Monday, Bobi Wine told journalists that the concert will go on, despite failure by police to respond to their letter adding that he and his team had interpreted the Police silence as a green light for them to go ahead with the concert.
Bobi wine’s application to Police over the Osobola Concert was submitted in September where he notified Police that he was willing to adhere to all the guidelines given to him by Police for the Concert to happen successfully.
However with the latest developments, we don’t know what is next, will Bobi wine ever hold any music concerts again because Police has continued to ban his concerts over Political issues.
