National Resistance Movement Legislators agree to support the 15% tuition Increment Policy.
Reports coming in indicate that Members of Parliament belonging to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) sat in a Caucus and agreed to support the 15% tuition increment policy at Makerere University after a meeting with President Museveni at State House, Entebbe yesterday.
The Legislators made the resolution after a presentation by the Minister of Education and Sports who also doubles as First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni on why the tuition increment needs to be maintained at Makerere University despite all arguments on why tuition should not be increased.
In her submission, the First Lady emphasized that the increment only affects first-year students who she said have not complained about the Increment.
Janet added that before the Policy was considered, there was benchmarking by students before they recommended the Policy to management.
She also argued that according to research carried out across East Africa, Makerere University had the lowest tuition compared to other great Universities such as the University of Dar-es-salaam, the University of Nairobi and the University of Kigali which prompted management to introduce the 15% tuition Increment Policy.
