President Museveni has held a crisis meeting over the ongoing wrangles between the leaders of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party in Kampala and his newly appointed presidential special advisor on Kampala Catherine Kusasira.
The meeting which took place in Kampala at State House Entebbe was aimed at addressing the ongoing back and forth fights between Kusasira and NRM Kampala leaders including Mr. Salim Uhuru, Mr. Godfrey Nyakana and Kampala Affairs minister, Ms. Beti Kamya, among others.
Reports indicate that in the meeting, Museveni urged the warring NRM leaders in Kampala to stop fighting for attention but accept each other in their role of leadership and concentrate on their mobilization work for the ruling party.
Mr. Uhuru confirmed attending the meeting and noted they cannot allow someone who doesn’t know the issues of Kampala to just come and try to pose as if they are not working and yet they have won immense support for the NRM all these years.
Nyakana added that all issues had been handled and there was no expectation of Hullabaloo because all the fights and insults have been about excitement which he said had been handled.
A few weeks ago, President Museveni appointed singer Mark Bugembe, alias Buchaman, and Ms. Kusasira as his special presidential envoys for Kampala and the ghettos respectively.
2 weeks after the appointment Mr. Uhuru invited Ms. Kusasira and other NRM leaders within Kampala to discuss a way forward on how to coordinate their work But Ms. Kusasira allegedly said she would not meet with them because she occupies a higher position, saying they needed to seek an appointment with her to attend the meeting.
A war of words ensued between the leaders after Mr. Uhuru and other leaders said it was a derogatory and arrogant demand.
For Long, the Kampala election area has been dominated by the opposition and with the emergence of Bobi Wine and the People Power Movement, it is more likely going to be worse in the 2021 elections. So to counter this kind of embarrassment, President Museveni appointed Catherine Kusasira, Buchaman, and Full figure to mobilize for NRM in the Central Business district ahead of 2021 but their appointments have created a war of words.
