National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaning Independent Woman MP for Kayunga district, Idah Nantaba who has been sitting on the ruling Party (NRM) side since her election to Parliament, on Tuesday, shocked fellow MPs especially the NRM side when she chose to sit on the Opposition side.
Her actions indicate that she is crossing to the Opposition side after losing her ministerial position.
Reports coming in indicate that after she was dropped by President Yoweri Museveni as a state minister for Information Communication Technology (ICT), Nantaba on Tuesday shocked MPs when she passed her NRM colleagues and crossed to the opposition side.
Nantaba has been sitting on the ruling Party (NRM) side since her election to Parliament despite coming into Parliament on the Independent ticket.
One of the opposition MPs Roland Mugume (Rukungiri municipality, FDC) took to the floor to recognize Nantaba, by welcoming her back to Parliament after she had taken a break, following a declaration that her life was in danger.
When Parliament resumed its sittings ON Wednesday, Nantaba was again seen occupying the same seat on the opposition side, where she had sat during the previous seating on Tuesday.
Independent candidates or MPs have a choice o sit on any side of the House but Nantaba’s choice to cross to the Opposition after she as dropped as minister says a lot and has left many critics saying that she is most likely to join the People Power Movement because she has now realized that the Opposition is the only way back to Parliament.
