The former security minister does not have any kind words for Ugandan social media users following the sudden demise of two Ugandan pilots that perished in a UPDF chopper crash.

While addressing mourners during the burial of one of the crash victims, Maj. Naomi Karungi, in Kiruhura District, Gen. Henry Tumukunde fumed at Ugandans he accused of misusing social media to bully members of the armed forces.

He tasked them not to take the forces for granted saying the peace Ugandans are enjoying currently is one of the fruits of the forces.

“The UPDF you are not treating with much respect is an important Force and it is sustaining Africa,” Tumukunde said. “You have to recognize the UPDF for doing great work even when they are not paid very well. UPDF got you from worse situations,” he added.

On Tuesday this week Maj. Karungi, a helicopter pilot perished in the crash alongside her co-pilot, Cadet John Benon Wokalo. The duo were flying UPDAF jet ranger AF 3202 towards Entebbe from Mubende district where they were on an Air Force training exercise.

The UPDF is still investigating circumstances that could have led to the plane crash though preliminary findings attribute the tragedy to a technical engine problem.
