Two Tanzanian Nationals identified as said Abel Leonard and Yusufu Kasiano have been arrested by the State House Health Monitoring Unit after they were found in possession of stolen government drugs worth Shs. 35m.
According to Dr. Jackson Ojera Abusu the head of the Unit, the two men were intercepted at the Mutukula stage in Kisenyi taxi park Kampala after a tip-off by the intelligence Unit.
The drugs raised suspicion when the owners disclosed that one of the boxes contained drugs while the other contained skin lightening creams but when searched the boxes contained a number of medicines.
Over 257 boxes of Anti-malarial drugs such as Lumiter, Lumartem and a total of 27 malaria strips were recovered and the suspects have been detained for further investigation.
Despite various preventive measures against Malaria, Uganda registered an increase Malaria cases according to the World Malaria report and the country also accounts for 4 percent of malaria cases in the whole world, making it to the top five countries responsible for nearly half of all malaria cases worldwide.
