Filmmaker Moses Bwayo who was arrested and detained at Kabalagala Police Station on Monday for filming a documentary about Kyadondo East Legislator Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine has been released.
According to the People Power Spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi, Bwayo’s crime was to participate in a video shoot on private property for a new song by Hon Robert Kyagulanyi.
Among other People who arrested included Shiphra, Bwayo Moses, Shafi Adams, Lilian Sanchez, Mai Nakamya Ssenkumba and Julie Brìsťows Nakayiza who have also been released.
Moses Bwayo is an independent journalist currently under contract with UK-based production company Southern films to film a long term documentary about Bobi Wine and his People Power Movement Pressure group.
Bwayo started his career at the Kampala Film School, a leading film institution in East Africa where he honed his skills in fiction and documentary cinematography as well as on location and post-production sound.
Moses has worked on several Projects including Disney film Queen of Katwe directed by Oscar-nominee Mira Nair as well as completing their ADR and completed the sound mixing for Kyenvu (Kemiyondo Coutinou, 2017).
He is also famous for over 25 pieces of work ranging from Music videos, corporate videos, short and feature-length fiction, and documentary films.
According to the Foreign Correspondents Association of Uganda, Independent Journalism is a vital part of a free society and Ugandan Authorities must not criminalize journalists reporting on opposition political groups.
