The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has appealed against the release of Dr. Stella Nyanzi over charges of cyber harassment.
According to the notice of Appeal, the DPP says he is not satisfied with the decision of Justice Adonyo to have Dr. Stella released.
The Office of the DPP has also written to the High Court to provide them with the record of the proceedings to enable them to establish their grounds of appeal in the Court of Appeal.
Last month, Justice Henry Peter Adonyo acquitted Nyanzi of the charges arguing that she was illegally convicted by Buganda Road trial magistrate, Gladys Kamasanyu adding that Dr. Stella Nyanzi’s constitutional right to fair hearing was violated because she was never allowed to bring any of her witnesses and neither was she given adequate time to prepare her defense.
The Charges were a result of a birthday poem Dr. Stella Nyanzi posted on her account after President Museveni’s 74th Birthday which has since been described a vulgar.
