The main political story of the week has been of Gen. Tumukunde’s exit and declaration of his presidential bid. This alone places the NRM party in tatters as hopes of fronting the failed ‘Muhoozi’ project continue to stumble. For starters, Gen. Tumukunde has been an ‘on and off’ friend of the regime.

In the previous 2016 elections, his support for Museveni was open. On record, Tumukunde actively mobilised for the NRM party and made enmity with the former Prime Minister, John Patrick Amama Mbabazi whose Rukungiri presidential rally got distorted by a hoovering chopper that dispersed his crowds with clouds of dust.

Away from the Tumukunde talk, lies another political fantasy of the obsessed first son, Lt. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba and his generational challenger, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu who at the moment appeals to the youth circles. Of late the first son has been trying to appear in the limelight. His official Twitter handle @mkainerugaba (150,000 followers) has been quite active in making political discussions like the alarming caution he raised against those planning to ‘destablise’ Uganda. Just a couple of days back, he posted a photo of himself donned in a yellow jumper bearing inscriptions of ‘Muhoozi Project’. It was unclear as to whether he was confirming UPDF dissident Gen. Tinyefuza’s 2013 narrative of preaching a ploy to push him in the presidential seat.

The current threat to the mysterious ‘Muhoozi Project’ is the Kyadondo East legislator, Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine. His unstoppable widely spread rise has made him a force among the already change seeking youths. By the time the ‘Muhoozi Project’ was hatched, Bobi Wine was never seen as a possible nemesis/rival. He was just an ordinary musician who rarely took part in active politics.

Change of tone

After seeing that Bobi Wine cannot be stopped or eliminated, the regime chose to voluntarily grant him security. The move itself looks sarcastic. The state that almost killed him in 2018 is the same that now sees great value in him two years later in 2020! Away from that, the first son has no choice but consider lobbying for Bobi’s attention so he can cope up with the frustrated generation. Our sources have been reliably told the first son is in pursuit of a platform for round table talks with Bobi Wine.

“A lot of my supporters are telling me to sit down and talk to my brother Bobi Wine. I have no problem talking to him, we talked in the past and were friends. I just advise all youths never to seek war over peace”, said Lt. Gen. Muhoozi while commenting on Bobi Wine and his People Power youth Movement.

People Power responds

While seeking to our sources, the People Power spokesperson, Joel Ssenyonyi said whereas they are aware of the first son’s efforts for a round table meeting, they can only have it in open space and with the involvement of all Ugandans. “Bobi Wine cannot meet Muhoozi. Let him concentrate on advising his father to step down,” Joel said
