The body of the LC II Vice Chairperson of Gatapwuo Parish, Abim District has been recovered.
David Canokema went missing on Sunday afternoon while hunting prompting a search by residents. His body was then discovered on Monday at 5:00 pm at the foothills of Awach.
According to David Ongwech, the LC II Chairperson Gatapwuo, the deceased was speared to death by suspected Karimojong thugs. He says that the thugs first tied Canokema against a tree at the foothills where he had gone when he met his death.
According to Ongwech, the residents are now living in fear following incidents of gruesome killings in the area by suspected Karimojong.
The case has been reported to Abim Central Police Station.
Enos Odong, the Abim district police Criminal Investigations Officer, says that the police are investigating the murder. He said the investigation is still at an early stage and no one has been linked to the killing.
This is the second gruesome killing in the Awach Parish in a space of two months, according to Mary Achieng a resident of Gatapwuo Parish.
In January, Milton Onaa, a resident of Barliech village was shot and killed by an arrow.
The attackers are suspected to be from Kotido district.
The Abim Resident District Commissioner, Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka has asked security organs to declare spears, bows and arrows as illegal weapons that should be disarmed from Karamojong communities. He said the weapons are lethal and have often been used in the region.
Hashaka said more security personnel would be deployed in the area.
