By Saturday morning, another Corona virus case was reported in Kigali, Rwanda. This case tops the confirmed other cases in Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan. A crisis meeting between the Ugandan Ministry of health and Chinese embassy officials has been held in Kampala where the officials collectively agreed to regulate the number of Chinese entrants jetting in Uganda.
This follows the untraced 85 Chinese nations who reportedly jetted into Uganda without undergoing self isolation as the international guidelines dictate. “We understand that about 85 Chinese nationals entered the country. They are currently scattered all over the country. We do not want to have such a moment again,’ says Minister Jane Ruth Acheng. ”We have since then agreed with the ambassador that we will not have such large numbers in the country,” she adds.
The Chinese ambassador however explained that the said immigrants were industrial workers who had only returned to conduct their economic activities.
The minister says Kampala has gazetted three places where suspected diagnosed patients will be kept. “We identified at least three places where they’ll be quarantined at their own cost for 14 days,” she says.
The Corona pandemic is already affecting at least 16 African countries with the latest being Rwanda where a case of an Indian national from Mumbai has been registered. On the entire African continent at least 150 cases have been reported with only 4 deaths confirmed so far.
Relatedly, a team of health experts from Makerere under their Youth Hub umbrella say they will voluntarily sensitise masses. Kenneth Kabyanga, a member says they will visit public places like markets to teach the public what the virus is and how it spreads.
