In the wake of COVID-19, the Health Minister Jane Ruth Aceng announced that the Tuberculosis (TB) day that was set to take place on March 24 at the Golf Course Grounds in Lira district will be conducted on-line and through radio.
She said TB is a respiratory disease just like COVID -19, they don’t want to take any risks.
Although Uganda has not yet confirmed any case of COVID 19, Aceng says the country’s risk assessment is very high now that the neighbours have confirmed cases. She refuted claims that Africans are less likely to suffer serious effects of infection, although she adds being largely a young population, Uganda has an advantage since the young have more immunity to clear.
She added that it’s too early to run to conclusions of a cure or a vaccine as available complete research so far is only about testing.
