The Health Ministry has said it has started implementing a total quarantine of people from high-risk countries.
Appearing before the Public Accounts Committee on Wednesday, the Health Ministry Permanent Secretary Diana Atwine said that since they have banned travels from high-risk countries, people who come into the country will have to cater for their costs of the quarantine even though it is a total quarantine.
Up to 17 countries fall under the category one countries that face institution quarantine, they are arrivals from; China, the United States of America, Italy, Germany, UK, Switzerland, Belgium, France, Spain and many others.
She says Uganda is an Island surrounded by countries of Kenya, Somalia, Rwanda, Tanzania and South Sudan which all have coronavirus.
Atwine also warned against fake hand sanitizers in the market.
Atwine says they have asked the National Drug Authority (NDA) to sample all the sanitizers in the market to ensure that they are genuine. She says the ministry is also receiving so many calls of fake alerts of coronavirus, and the team is doing its best to investigate the cases.
She says they are currently mapping the risks in the country, and the beauty is that Uganda has been exposed to several epidemics before and they have now rejuvenated the task force.
Nearly 200,000 people worldwide have tested positive for coronavirus while 7000 have died. Uganda is yet to register a case of the pandemic.
