At least 32 employees of Sun Power Company Limited, a solar lighting firm were arrested and detained briefly on Sunday in Kamwenge district for disobeying the presidential directive on large gatherings.

The 32 employees led by Peter Mbaasa were found holed up at Campus Bar and Lodges along Fort portal-Ibanda Mbarara road in Kamwenge town.

The Kamwenge District Police Commander, Richard Asiimwe cautioned the group and dismissed them to return to their homes.

On Wednesday, President, Yoweri Museveni banned gatherings of more than 10 as a preventive measure against the spread of the coronavirus. Uganda has since registered a case of coronavirus.     Asiimwe warned both companies and hotel owners in the district against exposing residents to corona by failing to abide by the guidelines issued by the health ministry.

Coronavirus is spread through contact with the droplets of an infected person.  The World Health Organisation-WHO has since advised people to wash their hands with water and soap and alcohol-based sanitizers.

It has also advised that people observe a social distance of one meter to avoid close contact.
