The First Son of Uganda who also doubles as the Senior Presidential Adviser for Special Operations, Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has protested to what he termed as wrong for New Vision praising Rwanda over Uganda’s stellar efforts against Covid-19 pandemic.
Gen. Muhoozi took to his twitter account wondering how a state-owned newspaper could praise Rwanda leaving out its own which also prompted him to ask who could be in charge of the state-owned newspaper’s Twitter handle.
On Sunday New Vision ran a story on its website titled “Rwanda orders shutdown as infections jump across Africa” which was adapted from AFP.
The Story highlights Rwanda’s efforts intended to slow the spread of the Covid 19 virus in Rwanda and has also since implemented total lockdown that included measures to stop Rwandans from unnecessary movements outside their homes.
While Uganda has only one confirmed COVID-19 Case, Rwanda has a total of 19 Confirmed corona cases which makes it the second-highest number in the whole of East and Central Africa.
Uganda has been credited by WHO and international media for the great track record in managing previous epidemics such as Ebola.
The AFP report that was quoted by the State-owned New paper New Vision contradicted Uganda’s record by claiming that the country was trying to follow Rwanda’s footsteps after President Yoweri Museveni ordered on Wednesday, a total prohibition of passenger travel to or from Uganda by land, air or water. The directive took effect on 22 March 2020 at midnight.
“But who is in charge of this New Vision? Is this a government asset or what? How dare they praise another state before our great Ugandan state?” Gen Muhoozi asked on Twitter.
He went on to remind doubters that Uganda is and remains the greatest country in Africa.
“Uganda is the greatest country in Africa period!! In all things. Nobody else can compare,” he said.
