Kyadondo East Legislator Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine has announced the temporary closure of the People Power Movement Offices in Kamwokya over COVID-19.
Bobi Wine who doubles as the team leader People Power Movement has been using the Kamwokya based offices to coordinate political activities that will lead to him to victory as President in 2021.
In a statement that was issued Tuesday afternoon, Bobi Wine announced that the movement has suspended all activities to ensure that supporters, leaders and Ugandans are safe amidst the Corona virus crisis.
“All People Power activities have been halted for the time being. Our offices are closed to the general public.”
We shall, however, continue to use the available online platforms to communicate with the people of Uganda,” Bobi Wine said adding that the People Power movement stands in solidarity with the people of the world as we all battle the deadly COVID-19.
While Ugandans are still struggling to embrace Social distancing, Uganda has nine confirmed Coronavirus cases and according to health minister, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, all the cases are Ugandan nationals who traveled back from Dubai and UAE aboard the Emirates and Ethiopian Airlines flights.
In their statement, the People Power Movement urged the government to take necessary measures and precautions to ease the burden and after effects that will be caused by the disease on Ugandans.
Part of their demands from Government include, Government ensuring that individuals, companies, non-governmental organizations and other private entities do not terminate employees as a result of the effects of COVID-19.
The People Power Movement has also asked Government to swiftly stock all district and regional hospitals on top of health centres with the necessary equipment and facilities to deal with suspected cases of COVID-19.
