The health minister, Jane Ruth Aceng has appealed to Ugandans to heed to the standard operating procedures and guidelines set by her ministry as she contends that her department is already overwhelmed.
The minister dismissed earlier claims by regime propagandists, Andrew Mwenda and Moses Ssali alias Bebe Cool who had earlier peddled a narrative that Mulago hospital with 1000 bed capacity could handle the Corona virus cases. The minister confessed that all this was just a blindfold narrative but the actual truth is that her department is already strained by the prevailing 44 cases. “Do not push our health system to levels that it cannot manage. Advanced countries with better systems like Italy, USA have been brought down to their knees,” she said during today’s presser at the Uganda Media Centre. “If you fail to adhere to the ministry’s guidelines, the pandemic will get out of control and yet Uganda’s Health systems will not be able to cope up,” she added. The minister further appealed to Ugandans to embrace social distance as it is already yieldful in China, which earlier was a global epicentre at the start of 2020.
The minister further reveals that all the 44 positive cases are being monitored in the three facilities at Entebbe Grade B hospital, Adjumani and Mulago hospital. She says they ate stably improving and showing signs of better health. In his last address, Museveni said it is costly a venture for the government to use the required $65 per individual testing bill. The centralised Entebbe based Uganda Virus Research Institute is already appealing for another shs 1b to handle the testing procedure.
