Coronavirus is dreaded world over and few, if not all people would not want to be associated with the disease that has so far claimed over 40,000 lives. However, this was not the case for a couple who chose to name their twins born during the current pandemic Corona and Covid.
The Indian parents said the names would remind them of all the storms they weathered including a lockdown ahead of a successful delivery of the two angels on Thursday, March 26 and Friday March 27.
India Today reported Preeti Verma the mother of the twins delivered the babies at a government hospital.
“I was blessed with the twins – a boy and a girl. We have named them Covid (boy) and Corona (girl) for now. I had some difficulties before delivering the babies,” Verma, 27, said.
According to Verma, Coronavirus was a threat to lives but had reminded people of good habits like maintaining high levels of sanitation.
“The virus is dangerous and life-threatening but its outbreak made people focus on sanitation, hygiene and inculcate other good habits. Thus, we thought about these names,” she said, giving reasons for their unusual decision,” she explained.
She disclosed that hospital staff initiated the idea of naming the two angels Corona and Covid.
“When the hospital staff also started calling the babies as Corona and Covid, we finally decided to name them after the pandemic,” she said. Verma said that her relatives who would have loved to be in hospital during her time of delivery could not make it because bus and train services had been suspended as precaution to counter coronavirus spread.
