Former presidential runner Dr. Kizza Besigye has urged Members of parliament to stop seeing Coronavirus as the opportunity to increase their benefits and exploit Uganda’s resources.
This comes after the Parliament passes the Shs304 billion Supplementary Budget to support the government in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic. According to the speaker of Parliament, each Member of Parliament was allocated Shs20m to help them in sensitizing residents of their respective constituents about the deadly disease.
In a tweet, Four time Presidential candidate lambasted parliament for not caring and being exemplary. He further advised leaders to give back to people they lead in times of crisis as this.
Besigye however noted that it is greed for Parliament to take a staggering shs10 billion yet some of the critical areas in managing the current crisis are being underfunded.
“Sincerely what is wrong with Uganda’s leaders? Everywhere in the world, leaders are donating their earnings to help the COVID-19 fight. Uganda’s leaders see an opportunity to increase their benefits. MPs getting more than $5000 each to help them fight COVID-19. Stop this habit,” Dr. Besigye tweeted.
