Reports we are getting from the hospital indicate that plain clothed officers claiming to be members of the Criminal investigations division (CID) have raided Rubaga hospital in pursuit of the half-conscious Mityana MP, Zaake Francis. Police could be scared of the looming reprisals that could target their own officers like Bob Kagarura (RPC) and Alex Mwiine (DPC) who tortured Zaake. This raid follows cautions pressed by Zaake’s lawyers and Bobi Wine who swore to take legal action on individuals who tortured their colleague while in custody.
We’ve spoke to one of the nurses who has acknowledged this operation. “From last night, we’ve been seeing new faces at the hospital. Majority were dressed like doctors. They threatened me when I tried to inquire for their identification,” she says. “I suspect they are after hurting the MP’s life. Her family must keep a keen eye,” she adds.
For quite long, there has been a tendency of deployment of government spies to cause harm to politicians in hospitals. A case in point is the Mukono municipality legislator, Betty Nambooze Bakireke who survived multiple chemical intoxication when her perpetrators were red handedly found trying to administer deadly injections. The regime usually wants to use lethal weapons to get rid of the dissidents.
Zaake is in danger from the time he was brought to hospital. A close relative spoke to Ekyooto and intimates that he also sensed a similar attack. “For a full night, I could not blink because I know something bad can happend,” he says. “You know the kind of government we are dealing with,” he shyly adds.
Apparently, Zaake is admitted to Rubaga hospital following a police bond given yesterday in presence of his lawyers, Asuman Basalirwa and Medard Lubega Ssegona. In one of the terms set by his wife, Bridget Namirembe, a sickly Zaake was to be taken to a hospital of his choice. Usually, relatives of targeted political prisoners feel unsafe in government run facilities which they suspect could harm their loved ones.
