Patrick Onyango, The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson has spoken out on why security forces cordoned off Kisekka Market this morning (Tuesday).

Onyango says mechanics in Kisekka market misunderstood the president’s directives issued on Monday regarding the operation of garages. Museveni allowed garages to operate. Onyango says Kisekka market does not have garages but it is a hub for spare parts.

“We know the garages and they are licensed. The mechanics in Kisekka market operate from the street and do not have licenses.”

Lawyers, insurance providers, wholesalers and hardware shops are among businesses that were allowed to operate.

Onyango says they are monitoring the situation to identify people that might have misunderstood the directives.
