A mother in Kassanda has killed her ten year old son for spending the shs 500 which was the only money left in the household.
The incident occurred in Myanzi village in Kassanda where the NRM pro-age limit crusader, Simeo Nsubuga hails from. According to reports from the neighbours privy to the incident, the fury fledged mother only identified as Nalongo Namutebi used a knife to slit the lower abdomen of her ten year old son. They say the quarrel stemmed from the shs 500 which the deceased toddler had used to purchase some edibles after spending a couple of days without eating. “The boy had gone to the shop to buy mandaazi (sweet baked wheat) and when he returned, he was stabbed by his furious mother who questioned for her missing shs 500 coin,” says the late child’s grandmother. “I was returning from the garden only to return to the sight of a pool of blood in the living room,” she adds. It is upon sight of the blood bath that she asked what had happened to the child.
The mother confessed that she had stabbed him because he used the household money without her consent. Out of mounted pressure from the charged mob, she led them to where she had secretly buried the deceased boy. The body was exhumed and police was notified to handle the case. According to preliminary police findings, the murderer is said to be suffering from psychological problems. The Wamala region police spokesperson, Rachael Kawala reports that the mother of the boy has discharge forms from Butabika mental hospital. However, the neighbours contravene the police narrative and link the murder to hunger. All these heinous crimes are resulting from the COVID-19 lockdown which has elevated domestic violence countrywide.
