The Lira District Police Commander, Bernard Mugerwa who came in the limelight after stripping lactating mothers and bundling them on police patrols has reportedly run mad.
According to reliable information we are getting from Lira police barracks, Mugerwa on Friday evening suffered a severe mental breakdown that saw him aim his gun at his juniors. “We don’t understand why he is turning aggressive,” says a private constable who spoke to this site off record. “He reported at work in a dire condition. He looked wasted with an un-ironed uniform,” he adds.

A relative close to Mugerwa says he has been advised by the family doctor to take some medication to relax his strained brain. “He is over worked. He looks anxious and utterly depressed,” his relative says. “He has to take enough rest and if possible a brief leave,” he adds.
Psychiatrists stress that Mugerwa’s condition is linked with his cruel conduct. “He is strained by the cruel way he’s been handling people,” says Kyomuhendo, a psychiatrist at Lira hospital. “His mind is haunted by his past atrocities,” he adds.
We’ve however been told that he is apparently undergoing special medical care and is already resoundingly responding to the treatment.
Mugerwa Bernard is one of the last Kayihura men standing in the Ochola police. He served formerly as a DPC at Kabalagala police station where he worked closely with the incarcerated Abdullah Kitatta and his notorious Boda Boda 2010 group before it was disbanded with the fall of Kayihura. Mugerwa was later thrown to Lira police station in 2017 where he has reinstated his notorious past ways.
