Authorities say they have already placed 12 doctors in the mandatory quarantine and ordered other patients to first vacate from the facility.

Sources say, the 12 doctors were not in the personal protective equipment at the time they encountered the positive 72 year old.

Dr. Yoweri Ibada, a medical expert in Gulu says the doctors unsuspectingly engaged with the positive community case when she came with a fever. “She was not feeling well. She had a slight fever when she came for check up,” he says. “Our doctors innocently mixed with her when they thought it’s an ordinary fever,” he adds. He however blames the health Ministry for delaying to supply the PPE to all government facilities.

Dr. Apio Pascal, who works at the facility is the only survivor because she was not present at the time the covid patient came. She cane 2 days back. “We have already traced 10 family members of the lady and subjected them to quarantine,” she says. “The 72 year old contracted the virus from the son who works in Elegu. He visited and gave her some money and that’s how she got the virus,” she adds.

All patients have since been ordered to evacuate from the facility. In related events, Hoima referral hospital has also admitted 9 covid cases from west Nile. Uganda has so far confirmed 7 covid cases from the health personnel who didn’t have PPE at the time of making contacts with the patients.
