There was drama yesterday as UPDF soldiers raided Nateete police station to rescue an LDU officer who had been detained for raping a 13 year old.
Reports say, Amon Twesigye a member of the LDU had on Thursday raped a yet to be identified 13 year old in Nateete, Rubaga division, Kampala. Amon was red handedly caught molesting the minor in a his tent facility. “We heard loud screams in the night and the tent was shaky,” says Kaggwa, one of the witnesses. “I called my other colleagues and we rescued the young girl who was shouting for help,” he adds.
Sources say that at the time of his arrest, Amos tried to defy and threatened to fire at anybody who would trail him. “He cocked his gun but the police officer quickly grabbed him and they fought till he was overwhelmed and fled without the gun,” says a source with knowledge of the crime. “He was then captured hiding in Kabuusu railway containers the next day,” the source adds.
On his arrest, Amos was first kept at Katwe police station before his eventual transfer to Nateete police station. Fearing that the news of their man would leak to the media, the UPDF launched a rescue mission. According to a police source, the rescue front was led by Capt. Godfrey Kasaija Ndihamwe who delegeted a sergeant, Kyaligonza to rescue Amos from the cells.
It is further revealed that Kyaligonza backed by his armed group raided Nateete police cells and rescued the paedophile. “He came, placed the incharge at gun point and ordered us to open for his suspect,” a police source who prefers anonymity revealed to this site. “They later drove off with the suspect to an unknown destination. We are not sure if they simply evaded the law or want to conceal the actions of their man,” he adds.
We have since learnt that police now wants to press charges on Capt. Godfrey and his sergeant, Kyaligonza for aiding the escape of a suspect and breaking into the police cells. The UPDF spokesperson could not be reached for a comment at the time of filing this report.
