Uganda prisons services has recorded its first COVID-19 case. This is the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in an inmate, although there are other inmates still awaiting to be tested.
According to the prisons spokesperson Frank Baine, He was at the isolation centre and this emerge at the time when his family had secured his release.
“We thank the Ministry of Health officials who alerted us about this suspect. He was remanded to the prison four days ago for violating the presidential directives. When we tested him, he tested positive and now he is being handled by the Ministry of Health” Frank Baine alarmed.
Frank noted that since the prison has got its first suspect of the deadly virus, The Commissioner General Johnson Byabashaija has banned visitors in all prisons in Uganda including lawyers and prison officers.
However, He revealed that as prison administration, they didn’t inform the family of the COVID-19 suspect because they fear it will create fear and panic among them.
