What has struck Burundi’s top leadership is quite alarming as unconfirmed news are circulating that the mother to the deceased former President, Domtillie Minani has died of Covid-19.
According to some sources, the president elect, Everiste Ndayishimiye has also been diagnosed with the novel coronavirus and is currently admitted at Bamureki Hospital in the capital Bujumbura.
Further speculations show that the speaker who is supposed to take over should the president dies is also admitted of the same virus.
As if that is not enough, the daughter to the deceased outgoing President is still battling the virus.
The late former President’s wife arrived today in the country from Agha Khan hospital in Kenya where she says doctors had released her after full treatment. She rubbished all news alleging that Nkurunziza died of coronavirus.
Burundi abandoned the World Health Organization (WHO) warning of going further with national campaign amidst the scaring spread the novel pandemic. Burundi went ahead with the campaigns and even completed the elections that kicked Nkurunziza out of office in May. Evariste Ndayishimiye has however not yet assumed the top office in the country since he is not yet sworn in.
Many speculations still link Nkurunziza’s death to coronavirus.
