Atleast 6 LDUs have been arrested for unlawfully battering 60-year-old man to death in Amati trading centre, Kamdini Town Council, Oyam District while enforcing Museveni’s directive to curb the spread of COVID-19 Pandemic.
It is alleged that the deceased who is identified as Francis Ogwang Munu, was returning from a clan meeting and had just branched to a local restaurant to have a late lunch at about 5pm. Immediately, the armed men invaded the place and started beating up the people who had gathered at the centre doing different businesses.
Francis was cornered at the eating place and was severely beaten till he was unconscious. The LDUs, who were six in total, also destroyed items mostly of foodstuffs and pushed down some stalls. Some community members also sustained injuries and have reported to Kamdini police Station an assault case, according to the village chairperson, Peter Obua.
The North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson, Michael Odongo, said the LDUs had gone for the operation without the knowledge of their superior.
Mr Odongo says the police are still carrying out its investigation on the matter. The deceased body was taken to Lira Regional Hospital mortuary for a postmortem.
According to postmortem report, the deceased was hit with the gun but several times, injuring his kidney.
