Boda-Boda riders and owners has sued the government of Uganda to court over the extended ban from ferrying passengers saying it’s an infringement on their source of livelihood.
Through their umbrella organisation- National Federation of professional cyclists Network, the riders and owners accuse government of discriminating against them in this Covid-19 pandemic yet other transport operators such as private cars , taxis and buses are allowed to carry passengers in big numbers.
They argue that, unless court intervenes and compels government to lift the ban on Boda-Bodas from carrying passengers, since their economic well-being is in danger.
In an affidavit sworn Kagaba Fred(one of the applicants), on Monday, July 6 he says that boda bodas don’t pose higher chances of spreading Covid-19 than other means like buses and private cars which carry more than one passenger.
“Boda boda people have lost and continue losing their source of livelihood and their dependants,” Kagaba says.
