As more scandals continue to unfold in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng has come out to sternly caution all health officials who are allegedly involved in the escalating trend of issuing fake Corona virus results to potential bidders.
Her warning comes days after reports emerged that health experts were allegedly altering covid results for the diaspora returnees who are jetting into the country after government lately succumbed to public pressure on reopening the airport. Reports say some returnees are issuing bribes between $300 to $500 in exchange for negative Covid results. The said bribe ably grants them a Ministry of Health certificate that declares one Corona-free.
A source in the Health Ministry which spoke to our reporter reveals that the embittered Aceng sanctioned an emergency meeting on Friday where she raised concerns about the tendency of altering covid results for money. “She warned all health workers to either desist from indulging in the controversy or be stripped of their medical certificate,” reveals the source. “A returnee related to one of the top government officials evaded the quarantine and went ahead to brag in a tweet something that didn’t go well with the minister,” he adds.
The health Ministry apparently faces a spate of criticism from the public over the diminishing approach towards containing the virus. Ugandans are now choosing to return to their work places and cannot take any further adherence to the earlier issued guidelines which are routinely being flouted by those in power. On top of emerging political rallies convened by NRM MPs and ministers, most Ugandans largely bank on the recent Lira rally photos to castigate the Minister, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng for flouting the very rules she crafted herself. In the images which emerged in late July, a careless Aceng was seen converging an unmasked crowd in a relaxed manner that exposed them to COVID-19.
